Remember when Verizon laid off a bunch of people right before adopting BREW? Seybold was all concerned about it but others suggested this was the benefit of BREW. In house designers/ customers / application writers weren't necessary. Any thoughts that the layoffs of 1600 "back office" personnel at Sprint could be indicative of a partial switch to BREW?

I did not think of how the layoffs could be related to outsourcing to BREW. Interesting.

I do not look at adopting BREW as an absolute, in all cases, right thing to do. I think it depends on how well PCS executes the Java alternative. To date, I have seen at least 2 indications they have not executed properly. They had severe provisioning problems initially, and the application catalog is very weak, to date. If you are going to do things on your own, you need to do them.

I do not need to repeat my opinion of VZ in general, but specific to BREW, it was absolutely the right thing for them to do, since I am confident they would have royally F'd it up on their own.
