Uski hasrat hai jise dil se mita bhi na sakoon
Dhoondhne usko chala hoon ki jise paa bhi na sakoon

Longing for that which my heart can never erase.
Searching for that which i can never embrace.

Meherbaan hoke bula lo mujhe chhahe jis vaqt
Mein gaya vaqt naheen hoon ke aa bhi na sakoon

Ask and I shall return any time you want
For I'm not that past which you can never retrace.

Zeher milta hi naheen mujhko sitamgar varna
Kya kasam hai tere milne kee, ki kha bhi na sakoon

Poison is scarce to come by, or else beloved
Its not (like) that promise which i can never partake.

OK.. First of all, let me admit, my knowledge of Ghalib or for that matter Urdu Ghazal is very limited so you should not take that to mean your translation is lacking if I did not recognize the ghazal.. I think however, if you look at it a bit, what is missing is the sense of gender that is conveyed in first two shers that is missing in translation.. What do you think..

I think you can get there.. If any one can .. :o)
