RL's show is the one big success of the combine that produced and promoted him, with the help of the largest PR operation on the planet, the government and political operatives in the GOP. It made that methodology the template for a hundred other shows.

Ask Rush, he'll tell you his sources began to make him a success once he built a following among the air bases in Sacramento for Ollie North. If Casey's operation hadn't located and promoted him, that's where he'd still be today.

does it with a level of skill that few other individuals possess.

True, if you consider skill dedicating your career to the absolute best propaganda machine around. The only problem: it's cynical. He doesn't believe 1/2 the crap he espouses. He's all about how masterfully to trick the audience, like his "deaf" episode.

I listen to him on occasion, and marvel at how he can twist the facts, create innuendo, and even the occasional humor. The reason I listen is to hear what the Rove and GOP propaganda will be for the near future. He makes sure he's in the loop.

The main point is that he has become the format for all other demogogic shows around the country: right-wing, screened calls, prepacked position points, emphasize emotional innuendo rather than actual facts.

In '88-92 was his breakthrough period when there were some real facts to be brought out. Since then it's all pure politics, imo.
