Karen,

My agenda is to call you on your childish tactics and call upon you to raise the level of your debate. KLP put it well:

It would be so much better if, instead of some contstantly lobbing spitballs, that the person who is complaining, could advance one or two ways that might be an improvement on whatever it is they are complaining about.

Paul

Paul, you are totally wrong...

Karen, I think you need to turn down the heat a little too...

Which has not manifested, and make no mistake, thankfully in my opinion.

Slow down, breath deeply and wipe the spittle from pauls face.

EDIT: Sorry all...... wish I hadn't commented. I see the problem evolved and was handled by the "great referee in the sky".

one big reason I think it's stupid to start a war with Iraq is it would result in increased terrorist acts against this country, which I've stated a number of times.

Karen.. they are already going on... Around the world...

And one could have (and many did) used that argument with regard to bringing down the Taleban...

We didn't invade Iraq for 12 years, being content to "contain" Saddam, despite his threatening another invasion of Kuwait, and attempting an assassination of GWBSr.

Yet 9/11 occurred anyway.

We didn't invade Afghanistan dispite bombings of US ships and Embassies....

Yet 9/11 occurred anyway...

And whether or not we do invade Iraq, another 9/11 style attack is likely to occur again unless we engage in extensive intelligence and covert military operations, in addition to "draining the swamp" as much as possible.

We must keep the terrorists on the run, never permitting them the chance to get organized in any one place for too long (eg: Yemen)..

We must use whatever means are required to send the message that attacks against the US will only result in involving the US more in the region, ON US TERMS resulting in many of their supporters recognizing that their fundamentalist and militant values fall under even increasing pressure...

I understand why you might hold such fear that a US attack on Iraq would ignite more terrorism.. But the bottom line Karen is that terrorism is brutally ruthless in its execution. It deliberately preys upon civilians and innocents, not military targets... Folks like Al Qaida have already "gone the extra mile" and will continue to try and top previous accomplishments in ever more "glorious" fashion as WMD's become available to them.

They will use biological weapons someday, nuclear weapons if they can obtain them... Weapons which require a roque state to militarize them for proper deployment. Rogue states who see such terrorist groups as their disposable "stormtroopers", debilitating and destabilizing their enemies (the West) so that they can have their way in the region.

But they can't operate if every state in the world fears drawing the wrath of the US and its allies. They can't operate if their financial supporters have no safe haven for their wealth.. And they can't operate if we crack down on criminal networks involved in trafficking and smuggling.

We'll never totally prevent terrorism. But we can make the cost so high that governments think twice about permitting, or ignoring, such terrorist groups operating from their soil.
