I wonder how President Bush is taking these articles.

Powell came into his job with his own power base, not beholden to Bush. For the first year, he got to run FA the way he wanted, Bush was not that interested. Powell has been a Washington "insider" for over 20 years, ever since he was a White House "Fellow" and got to be on the inside looking out.

He probably does not want to stay beyond the first term, he has an ill wife, and I think he will have had enough of it by then. Bush will not fire him, too much flak, and Powell does what he is supposed to do very well. He is too liberal to get the Presidential Nomination in '08. I don't think he would want to make the fight for it.

So Bush will grit his teeth and put up with it.
