And as far as I know the Japanese companies never have sunk back to a decent P/E. When Templeton was first buying them in the 1960s, he was getting major companies at P/Es of under 3.

I admit at this point whatever is going on in Japan is so foreign to my understanding of economics and finance that I just can't follow it. Sounds like basically everything is frozen up because neither debtors nor creditors are willing to lose face by admitting that the debts contracted during the real estate and stock bubble simply cannot be paid off.
