I just remembered Toqueville's observations about Americans, that people who went broke usually did not feel they were permanently disgraced by it the way most people did in Europe. They just picked up and tried something else. Maybe the Japanese sense of honor prevents this insouciant shaking off of failure?

Tommaso, Jean-Marie Eveillard who runs the First Eagle SoGen funds said he was finding uncommon values in Japan but was treading carefully because the banking problem could cause "value" companies to have liquidity problems. He is a student of Dobbs and Graham.
