There are tons of stories from Canada's past that are every bit as inspiring as those you mention. The issue is that, for the last generation, the elites in Ottawa have tried (and largely succeeded) in suppressing genuine Canadian history and culture, and replacing it with an ersatz, U.N.- PC-friendly mish mash. The Canada of Arthur Currie, of Anthony Henday, of William Van Horne, doesn't officially exist.

One of the striking things about the Jubilee Visit was the palpable hunger for things genuine. The Queen presented new colours to regiments with illustrious history -- real history of real accomplishment in overcoming real adversity. The government aggressively ignores that history, and really would prefer it would go away, so they can focus on "diversity". But the guy on the street knows BS when he smells it, and wants the real thing. Despite the government's best efforts to smother the Queen's tour in pap, people still turn out because it's a link to a time when the spontaneous culture of the people was in the fore.

GOD OF THE UNITED KINGDOM
They got their own God over there? I thought they had to share with the rest of us. :-)

The problem for Canada is we have no Paul Bunyon or Johnny Appleseed, we don't even have Bugs Bunny.
Tell you what. I'll give you this that I almost won in the NAXWAG today:
