Kerfluffle for real? I missed that. I did catch the kerfluffle between Daschle and Rush Limbaugh, et al. Daschle accusing conservative talk radio of creating an atmosphere in which his family was threatened. I did not see all of Daschle's remarks, but they appear to have been made in the context of accusing the Republicans of obstructionism, so I assume the whole talk was part of a political agenda. Another kerfluffle appears to be brewing at Harvard Law School. The headline is a head-scratcher - Harvard Mulls Offensive Speech Ban washingtonpost.com but reading further down, one sees that a student used the word "nig" in an outline, and another student wrote, "if you, as a race, want to prove that you do not deserve to be called by that word, work hard and you will be recognized." "Nig"? "If you as a race" don't want to be called nigger, "work hard"? What do they teach these children at home? Clearly, not manners, nor even common sense. It is possible that in the most rarified strata of society using racial epithets is the way to get ahead, but not in any strata of society I've frequented. Where I come from, certain words are reserved for the type of people who are destined to live their entire lives in trailer parks, and that's one of them. Uhn, uhn, uhn. Kerfluffle.
