Not quite true in the sense that buying in March of 2000 would have caused a considerable loss of wealth. Not buying at any particular point in time preserves what wealth you have. Too many investors forget that the first rule of investing is capital preservation.

Extrapolating from the nadir can be as much an impairment to one's wealth as buying in during times like March of 2000. Too few people seem to notice this most obvious point.

It is also incorrect to say that All talk of slowing growth rates is just forecasting by projecting the present. I have previously posted on this but projecting the present has not been one of my reasons for slower growth.
