Each year there are about 30,000 bombing incidents in the US.

This is news to me. What type of bombing events are you talking about? Since this works out to over 80 event per day there should be one or two every day in any large US city.

>> We routinely trade off safety vs cost and live with it <<

True but I think LB meant, for example, homicide bombers. Supposing, for example, that the would-be Mexican separatists in the Southwest decided to start blowing up busses with schoolchildren in order to make their point. Would we do a cost-benefit analysis or would we leave no stone unturned?

I agree with LB, FL....IF we ever "accept" a certain number of "bombing incidents" a year....that means that we as a country will have to "accept" who is the "bombee as well as the bomber"....

Also, where is there information on the number of "bombings" a year in the US ... That number really surprises me...

We will never "accept a certain amount of terror." NEVER!

"accept", FL, Accept! That is the word that set me off. Can you imagine a Coach who ran his team on the basis that they had to start off the season "Accepting" losses?

You know you are going to get hit, but you don't take the attitude that I read in the media and on this thread that we shouldn't, for instance, go after these terrorists too hard because it will just breed more terrorists.

It's like "zero defect" Quality Control.

As a lurker who has read all 58000+ on this thread, I have seen far too many outlandish claims (from both left and right).

This one takes the cake --- and from the moderator himself no less.

I challenge you to support this claim. How about some links for us Faultline.

Hmmm... Wouldn't expect something like this from you FL...

From 1993 to 1997, 13,510 bombings or attempted bombings were reported to ATF. Of these incidents, 4,619—a full 34 percent--were attributed to juveniles (i.e., by Federal statute, those who are less than 18 years of age). The statistical percentages of juvenile bombings vary widely geographically.

So that comes down to about 3,000 per year.... So maybe that's what you meant, right??
