It can be a bit stressful for dogs that are leashed up outside with a food bowl.

One thing you find out right quick it that dogs are really, really scared of bears. This gives you the clue that you should be too. I have seen dogs hightailing it at about 40 miles an hour back into camp after barking madly at some noise and then going to investigate and finding bear. They actually leap into your arms for protection. The spectre of a 100 pound animal leaping into your arms should give pause. The joke is that a dog will attack any man just about, and a bear is as scared of man as the dog is of the bear ( at times). When a bear scares they run away about 200 feet and stand stock still - rigid. I have crept into the bush after them after chasing them out of camp and found them like that. You could actually see their hearts beating. After a while curiousity gets the better of them and they will creep back into camp. A good scarer of animals, both moose and bear is a transitor radio or boom box suddenly turned up loud. As good as a klaxon or banging pots. Best of all is a crack flare.
