Referring to it by the mounties' file number would be our way of giving the bin Ladens the finger ... we'd be saying to them, get in line fella, we've seen plenty criminals before we saw you, we got them and we'll get you too, just another day in the business for us

This is superior, i think, to glorifying them as 'warriors', which we do automatically when we call this a 'war' ... it's not, it is crime, and a police matter, requiring for the most part careful methodical detective work

It's big crime sure, and we'll use military assets in actions against it, as we have already .... don't misunderstand - i'm not advocating we move it back beside jaywalking, i agree we should be doing much much more to fight it than we are - but if i were anointed Supreme Liberal For The Duration i would have a redcoat in at least nominal charge of the case, he would do the public speaking for the country on it in full dress uniform, in between discussion of burglaries and drunk driving [networks could edit out what what they want], and he would refer to it by the charges and by his organisation's file number

... just our polite canehjun way of saying screw you al Qaeda ... defending the language at the same time, because it's pretty hard to have a war when there's no geographically defined state as opponent, and when you can't pin down when it started, or to what point you need achieve to win it
