Toilet Paper's got a problem with truth and facts....but more importantly, he's got no grip on reality...That's why he's a waste....

Why can't you just live and let live; go on about your business and leave ours alone?

That's what we want to know. Why won't you gun owners leave us alone? Why must you keep shooting us?

Tom

Re The armed citizen has no need to take up arms against the government, because the government can be trusted as long as we have the Second Amendment.

Could you explain this? I read the Second Amendment and did not see how it is makes you trust the government.

That was the time when the government's army had more or less the same weapons as the guns in the hands of individuals. So arming the citizens was perhaps useful for one purpose or another. However, in today's world, the state's army is so sophisticated and has access to such advanced technology that it is absurd to think the armed citizens can do anything meaningful for or against the state.

Go see Demolition Man.
If you want to go way back, try Red Dawn.

Hmm.. You know that those are fiction, right?

Have you seen The Day After? Maybe we should destroy all nuclear weapons on earth. Or have you seen War Games. It shows that computers cannot be trusted with military systems. Dead Ringers? It says doctors cannot be trusted with prescription pads. Have you seen/read 1984? Goes to show that we should prevent the state from getting too much control over us. Have you read Brave New World? It shows that we should definitely ban cloning.

I can go on forever with this. Basically, all fiction about the future builds a story on certain predictions. Featuring in the plot of some Stallone film hardly lends additional credibility to a pro-gun argument.

The Second Amendment is like the canary in the mine. When it dies, you better clear out.
When it dies, it will have been too late for a long time.

Since you really aren't interested in the truth, I have no further interest in debating this issue with you.

I think you have no interest because the position that either all guns are allowed or all are banned is the only debate you can handle. That particular debate is generally only carried out by the NRA and a few opponents that it finds and promotes as a straw dog.

At any rate, the particular point I was making is that the second amendment gun rights are a lagging indicator for your loss of liberty. By the time Poindexter slides that into his database your real liberties will by long gone. Nobody who is really trying to do harm to America's freedoms cares a whit about miscelaneous small arms, so they rally behind the NRA to give some a false sense that things are under control.
