I think you overestimate your disengagement. You have been pretty insulting in return to people like JLA. If you did eventually adopt a more Olympian attitude, it took quite awhile, and was subject to occasional "falling off the wagon".

I have emphasized that the responsibility of one party does not absolve the other party of necessity. Bull Connor was a mean son- of- a- bitch, even if it were predictable that marching would incite him and his men to rough tactics. And, as I have reiterated, responsibility is not the same as culpability: the Reverend King was right to show the nation the underlying evil of segregation, the malice that enforced it, to the point of harming good, churchgoing people merely protesting their oppression.

As for the bear example, it is surely apt, insofar as it merely exemplifies reckless engagement......
