I think you are begging the question. If you define "importance" as caring about something, then both statements are true. If you define "important" as consequential, then some things are important in and of themselves, although the investigative approach provides a context for us to take note of them. Furthermore, even to the extent that our interest may alter with context, that is not to say that the concept of importance is wholly malleable. It remains a logical category of sorts, through which we sort out what makes a material difference and what does not.....
