As red as red can be...

theglobeandmail.com

Note the red maple leaf on the flag in the background.

This is our national symbol and it only grows in certain parts of Quebec and Ontario.

We used to have the beaver as our national symbol, that was cool and appropriate.

Here is another good Heinlein Quote
or
Tributes to the Grandmaster

You style yourself Lazarus Long so I asked if you know Lafayette Hubert MD ? I liked the way I evaded that, very clever of me.

I like this opinion of Lazarus written by Robert Heinlein, I thought it was very eloquently put, I guess that is why he was the first recipient of the Grandmaster Nebula Award (Lifetime Achievement) Here is that first quote...

<<Bloody! Lazarus what is this compulsion that makes you lie and cheat ? Why can't you be honest most of the time ?>>

Here is another good Lazaraus Long quote, you will be surprised when you find out who said that first one. The readers who love Heinlein must have thought that was very funny.

<<I think Lazarus suffers from a compulsion to be the biggest fish in any pond. He expects to be the bride at every wedding , the corpse at every funeral, while pretending that he has no ambitions, just a barefoot country boy with straw in his hair and manure between his toes.>>

If you haven't read much Heinlein I would suggest that retreading a few quotes you find on the web is no substitute for actually reading his work. You would do well to start with Orphans in the Sky (c) 1941, I imagine that I am like Hoyland and you are like Narby, that could just be my imagination though.

This is sensible
or
Qurious Quotes

I am always amazed by what some people see when they read these threads. Here are you and average joe repeating a quote from Heinlein wherein he says "distrust your elected officials". Now go back and read the discussion we have been having.

Is that not funny ?

The material was published; as was suspected, it was highly embarrassing to the gov't but violated no laws.

The Pentagon Papers did not embarrass the government. They revealed virtually nothing that wasn't already known. The only embarrassed party was the government's apologists, though many of them weren't capable of shame anyway.
