To: abuelita who wrote (19132 ) 11/29/2002 12:49:26 AM From: elpolvo Read Replies (1) | Respond to of 104154 anti establishment-wayne asked me to go with him to the festival of lights at our city hall and hob nob with the mayor and other like folk - don't know why, but he receives an invitation every year. maybe 'cause he's one of our community artists <g>. its probably not unlike some of the events you attend. i'll let you know later. yes. i go to those as a producer with camera and mics on. and i see a lot of ego... the ego of humility... praising others in hopes they will receive praise someday. butt... i also see a lot of caring. a lot of people working for what they believe will help the community and the world... people sacrificing more lucrative pursuits for public service. as much as we want to believe it, the elected bastards aren't there to cheat us. they don't have enough power and their employees are not malleable or motivated enough for that. there's no great conspiracy in government to hurt the little guy. the truly greedy are in private business. very smart phuckers playing monopoly. they invest in political power... they buy political favors and politicians who unwittingly trade their lawmaking power for money that will get them re-elected so that they can continue in office and do benevolent works. the elected rationalize that they remain free of influence, but slowly, they begin to see their constituency as wealthy business people who need their help in shaping a pro-business agenda. they mean well but they run into conflicts of interest... they can't help the people if they can't get elected and they can't get elected if they don't help the rich ones. catch 22 if you elect someone who denounces this kind of power, you get someone who is powerless. don't waste your time. clinton was a genius. he used his political savvy and combined it with his desire to help the whole human race more expertly than any politician in history. the reason he kept the usual manipulative business interests at bay was that he opened up channels of business trust worldwide... that helped their bottom line immediately. how did he do it? he made the world know that we cared about them as customers and that we appreciated their business as well as giving them the confidence that our commerce with them was not predicated on our judgment of their cultural values when they appeared different from our own. he helped them know that we needed them and that we would go to lengths to share our success and educate them in the ways of the more productive techniques we were learning to increase profits and grow economies. he gave the world the feeling that we were a county open to the new network economy and that every other country in the world was an integral part of that... and that we needed their help and participation in growing a new world economy. older business enterprises who had learned to maintain profit through monopolistic strength and its inherent power, instead of advanced R&D and continual reinvention of their business model, were extremely threatened. graybeards, smokestacks and fossil fuel companies were having daily panic attacks. <this statement is pure conjecture - but it may explain the extreme changes that took place immediately after GWB took office.> politics is NOT my preferred commentary on this board. i'd rather make people laugh or appreciate a sunset or the giggling of a baby armadillo... but i am in the biz... and as one who points cameras at them, i urge you to watch. be informed. tell them you appreciate their public service... and most importantly, tell them you are watching them.did you get to speak with all your chillen? all except the incarcerated. -polvo
