AJTJ: True, it hasn't happened before but there is a reason. This time, a double top on VIX at above 50 from July and Sept-Oct elevated lower BB to near 30. So, I prefer to look at absolute VIX values in this case rather than at the "artificially" elevated lower BBs. This residual bearish attitude is confirmed by the still high equity P/C ratio 21 dma.

ajtj99, IMDO you are putting far too much faith in rules that follow the logical pattern of "it hasn't happened in this bear, therefore it will not happen in this bear."

Remember the "no rally without piercing the lower bb on the weekly" rule? Well, neither the COMP nor the NDX pierced its lower bb on its weekly chart, but this rally took off nonetheless.

I'm not trying to be critical, just cautionary.
