I have been relentless in cautioning shorts to beware.
But i see your disagreement runs far far deeper.
This is your thread.
I will cease to post here again. respectfully ,Max

AV needs to roll over on the dailys still....and the weeklys overbought still need to roll and not AV before a good short and hold safe strategy can be played.....

Jeff, good post. for those not intent on a "safe" short and hold strategy but for those with some intestinal fortitude who want to try to catch the top, isn't a good play to start laying them out here? Looking at the SOX dailies and weeklies (the mighty SOX has led this advance, it should lead the decline), they haven't been this overbought in a long time. You might want to cover as the Sto's come down for some AV, but the top should be in the making up here.

i've only been scanning posts over the holiday, missed all of yours and didn't even realize you were back!

hope you had a good time, there's still a few survivors on this thread who got out before mr. market shoved that enormous chunk of lumber up where the sun don't shine.

Jeff: Re: "the problem is....the thread lost "focus"....."

Yes, and it is good to have you back to give focus to your thread.

Re: "i asked if anybody wanted some here nuked to clean this thread up and get the focus back........nobody said anything....so i guess everybody is happy......"

Yeah, I would like to see some nuked but what is past is past so not sure if that is a productive use of time. Maybe amnesty for past acts and a new beginning for all with that thought in mind. Or, maybe you just want to talk about your TA concepts on this thread. Now that would limit the discussion. Anyway, thread does need a refocus alert and those are my ideas fwiw.

This thread is experiencing "Tragedy of the Commons"

Too many people posting "waste"

Members will need to exert self control or Jeff will need to moderate (block) participants.

Out with the ankle-biters!

JEFF, excellent post and great insights. My thoughts:

(1) It's your thread so you are welcome to make any changes you desire. However, you have established yourself as a leader/"guru" at least on par with Zeev and inevitably lots of posters will be attracted to any thread you post on just like Zeev's thread got out of hand before he moved to iHub. I have noticed that many excellent posters have migrated here from other threads as time went on.

(2) IMO the parallel with the Oct 98 rally needs to be kept in mind (courtesy of Jorj):
Message 18287216
Your caution is caused by the bubble-like nature of this rally (crap stock runs) and some powerful AVs on dailies as well as DBs on weeklies (VIX, VXN, XAU). I agree. Yet, this rally may fail well before we reach 1600-1700s.

My idea is to watch for a blow-off top very soon and after that gingerly play the short side while watching if daily Stos and RSI fall below 50 or stop at 50 (and if the weekly Stos and RSI turn down). If they all fall below 50, it's probably a bear market rally but if they don't, it might Oct 98 all over again. I say probably because weekly Stos and RSI will have to fall below 50 as well to be sure that the rally does not go higher after a retrace.

I 've had you bookmarked since way before the P&S thread, so I've had no problems with ankle biters.

Out here lurking and listening to Station JEFF.<g>

Many thanks!
