I know that there is an “Imam” in New York who appeared in Hard ball few weeks after 9/11 and unconditionally condemned that attacks. I don't know of any "Islam leader" other than those of the black Moslem movement. And I would think they denounced the violence unconditionally. Re <<Actually it is spelled Imam. >> LOL, OK, I know what an Imam is. Imam is mainly an "honorary" label. It is not earned or appointed or elected. People started calling Khomeini Imam and it stuck. They tried on the new guy, Khamenei (yes, spelling is different and is a different dude) and it did not stick. Re <<Can OLB call a jihad for instance. What constitutes reasons for a jihad etc.>> As far as I know, no one can call Jihad. Jihad is mentioned in Koran as one of the foundation of being a Muslim and it means resistance or struggle. It is by not meant to be offensive. So all this Jihad crap is from an idiot who has an axe to grind. I think the problem is that you think of Islam like Catholicism where there is well defined hierarchy and the power of Catholic church can almost define the religion. Islam does not have such hierarchy and is much more fragmented. There are no defined or appointed leaders like as you think. You are looking from a message or leadership from an organization that is simply not there. Re <<While looking for proclamations by Islamic leaders, I came across this letter. It seems to express my sentiments.>> Is he leader enough for you? If not him then who? To end this discussion, I will agree that Islam in its current method of practice by middle eastern countries is violent and uncivilized. But if we have learned anything from history, that fact by itself does not show that Islam, the religion, is the problem. Mani
