Were that the case, I'd be condemning the Bible, too. It isn't the case, however. Factions of Islam are carrying out murders of children and other innocents on the basis of a widespread condonation of Islam. Now, I'll agree that not ALL those who believe in Islam are GUILTY of murder; however, it is clear that large numbers of muslims believe such murders are not only righteous, but are rewarded by the religion. Ted made the best argument, that abortion clinic bombers in the name of Christianity were analogous. However, his argument fails as there is not broad support (or ANY support, that I can see) from within the religion for this activity. These killers are viewed as killers by practically all Christians. It is no coincidence that six out of six students interviewed on 60 Minutes at a NY Islamic school approved of suicide bombing and even tacitly indicated they would be willing to consider it. These children are being indoctrinated as part of their religious upbringing. I think someone would have to be blind not to be able to see this relationship and see that the violence of the religion underlies the killings. This is not to say that all, or even most, Muslims are complicit; I certainly believe there are factions and sects of Islam just as others. That said, no one can deny that Islam has been behind death warrants issued for various people (as mentioned, Salman Rushdie). This is no way condemns ALL Muslims, and it is too bad they don't have a stronger voice to fight for their religion, as I know some would.
