John Markoff, Pentagon Plans a Computer System That Would Peek at Personal Data of Americans nytimes.com

A little for-the-record research and cross-referencing. Markoff is one of my favorite NYT types, on a whim I went looking for his original article on Mosaic, the prototype web browser that more-or-less set the web in motion. Turns out it dates back to 1992: crs4.it , from nethistory.urldir.com .

Eslewhere on the Pointexter front: google-watch.org

Somebody else apparently made the sort of obvious link between nytimes.com and nytimes.com (posted in #reply-18282711 ) google-watch.org .

With a little luck, though, Poindexter will do an NIH with google. I hope, anyway.

Dick did come up previously here in #reply-18275177 and nytimes.com
