This thread is a place to post articles that others might find interesting, on a range of topics. I hope it can be a relatively concise running record of topical stories that people might actually be able to go back and read to see how things were covered over time. Topics I'll be posting on include the eponymous current events, science, technology, and books, maybe even a little sports, plus whatever else catches my interest. Feel free to contribute anything of general interest.

Guidelines: When posting external sources, try to lead your posts with headline / titles and link to full text, so that there's some indication what your post is about from the header page. And do try to post external sources as much as possible. Try to post an excerpt that will catch people's interest. Try not to post entire articles unless the links are known to be volatile or you don’t have a link. Try to avoid editorial page / op-ed type commentary.

Things to avoid:

1. Demonstrations of Godwin's Law.
2. Complaints about the NYT in particular or the "liberal media" in general.
3. Calling anybody a traitor.

[ having mercifully gotten by so far without a roundup of the ususal suspects, moderation here is minimal, more of a safety belt / air bag than anything else ]
