I'm not necesarilly talking about a single day event, a long steady decline is far more likely IMO. And I don't know if all those ills would come along with it.

If this is a wave '2', then I would expect the next move to carry at least 1.618 times the first wave which puts us pretty close to that 1994 level of DOW, it would be cut in half essentially.

That happened to the Nikkei just in the last 3 years and they have avoided the social ills. And over the last 12 years its lost 78% yet their country remains a rather serene place (aside from the all-night karaoke-g).

It would not be a bed of roses but I think we would survive. This mess needs to be cleaned don't you think?
