It would be interesting to know the name of the ship, and to know the year it came to Virginia....Sometimes those "convict" ships were full of people hijacked off the streets so the Colonies could have help with the plantations.... Or perhaps the person was poor, and took a loaf of bread to feed his family.... There were MANY reasons for the "convict" ships...

Just another example thought of what I was talking about. Some people continue to play the "race" card, or blame their problems on someone else...(i.e. *they* didn't pay enough, etc....)

But somewhere along the line for your family and ultimately you....someone (and most probably LOTS of "someones") got to work, got an education and provided the support for their families to be able to do the same, and hopefully better, for their families, and their families, etc.

one of my ancestors ... arrived in Virginia during the 1730's as 'cargo' on a convict ship

Two of my ancestors, Adam and Eve, were expelled from their homeland too. The family has never gotten over it! :(
