Not all are ashamed. A visiting imam giving a guest lecture in an extremely liberal college town in Northern California at Iftar meal mentioned that he is frequently asked by his brothers how they can "help" the cause in Palestine and Kashmir. His response, with a laugh: "How can they help when they are too lazy to get up for morning prayer."

Fred,
I agree. Muslims like these folks will save the religion. Shame on the folks who make excuses for the bin ladens of the world. The old gang member line from West Side Story comes to mind--"I'm depraved on accouna I'm deprived." Poor people, even persecuted people, can still behave with dignity and not react with indiscriminate violence. Perhaps Arafat could have tried the tactics of MLK and behaved more like Nelson Mandella. Friedman is my guru too. mike

One more thought Fred,
Liberal islam has yet to get roots in an arab state. Please correct me if i am wrong? We could win the battle in the non-arab muslim states--indonesia, pakistan, india, turkey and iran but still have not seen one arab state move in that direction. mike
