This information is very old, from my college days (I went to a geologic college). It is my understanding we have tremendous OIL SHALE FIELDS in the west, if gas either gets very expensive or we get a cheap means of refining it I seem to remember we got more then Saudi Arabia out there. JDN

JF,

re:Any wonder why Bush et al covet the Iraqi oil fields???

The left made this claim when the first Bush went to Iraq. What happened to all that oil - or was this claim just bullshit as it is again. Nobody said a word when Clinton said Iraq/Saddam was a menace and wanted to take him out - guess Clinton has no oil buddies. Besides China and Russia get all the fields this time around or at least that's the rumor as to why they went along with the UN.

re:We will be forced to try and recover more and more from old wells....it of course will get very expensive

Considering we leave around 2/3's in the ground, I see no choice. We really need to figure out how to make coal cleaner.
