Ramsey,

re: Lightning Speed

<< If you do not believe me, go to China and see for yourself as I just had. >>

Unfortunately I may never get that opportunity but I'm hoping that there will be a chance. We've just opened direct sales and support offices in Beijing so that opportunity may yet exist.

The closest I've been is Hong Kong where my current company headquarters Asian operations and Singapore where my former company did the same. We run JV's in Tokyo and Sidney.

<< If you are suggesting that the Chinese bureaucracy works at lightning speed, then you are correct. >>

I have a different observation but that is only based on quarterly staffs with my Asian counterparts and weekly correspondence with my China dealer manager.

<< My guess is if Nokia wants to enter the China cdma market, they are going to have to go the same route as Samsung (Kejian) or LG (Langchoa) and partner with one of the Chinese licensees. >>

My guess is quite different than yours.

My guess is if nokia wants to enter the China cdma market, they are going to have to go the same route as Samsung (Kejian) or LG (Langchoa) and partner with one of the Chinese licensees.

Any idea how these JV's work? What exactly does the Chinese company provide in the JV?

The trade gap seems to be getting bigger between China and Korea....and some of that is attributed to CDMA handsets.

Ramsey,

re: Nokia CDMA license appp

A little qualification on my previous comment.

I could be entirely wrong but I am under the impression that the Nokia entity (actually a JV with Capitel Group) that is pursuing a cdma handset license in China. is Nokia Beijing Capitel Nokia Mobile Telecommunications Limited (BNMT) which commenced operations earlier this year.

I suppose that it is possible that they might form yet another China JV (they currently have 8) with a Chinese firm that is already licensed for cdma, but I tend to think it will be BNMT. Capitel also has JV's with LGE and SonyEricsson.

Best,
