The doctor shot the wound area full of novocaine and debrided the wound using a metal tool with a little scoop on it. I did not realize that the greyish stuff has got to go before it will heal, never having been in this type of situation before.

You can debride it yourself after soaking with saline solution, using a sterile gauze pad, which is mildly abrasive. Rub away the greyish tissue and get down to reddish, bloody stuff.

I suppose maggots would work but I am going to try this technique for the time being.;^)
