Islam's problem, as my little self sees it, is that it's founder DID make universal incitements to violence.

I'm not entirely convinced of that.. I'm not particularly well versed in the Koran, although I have a copy of it that I use for reference.

But I believe that there is sufficient attention paid to the concept of Islam being a peaceful religion, that is what will win out in the end.

But I have no illusions about how brutal Muhammed may have been to anyone who opposed him. He lived in a brutal time, under brutal cultural rules. A time where it was apparently "acceptable" to marry the 9 year old daughter of a follower (one of his at least 9 wives).

Basically, I don't particularly buy into the belief that Muhammed was a peaceful man, if not just another post-christian cult.

But what I'm saying is that many muslims seem to believe that Muhammed was a peaceful man, who taught a religion of peace and tolerance. I say that we play upon that belief in order to insure that muslims continue to believe he was a prophet of peace.

I certainly don't believe that we should demonize all muslims merely because we have some rabid christian "crusaders" who want to use a US invasion as a means of launching their own evangelical invasion.

What I want are the major religions fighting for souls with their books and knowledge as their weapons, not waging Jihads or Crusades in order force conversions. And I want them to acknowledge that they exist under a secular system which guarantees their right to believe they way they want, and prevents them from destroying each other through violence.

If someone's religious beliefs are so "right", they hardly need to impose them forcibly upon others.

And btw, I think you'll find the Hadith to be more influential over the lives of Muslims than the Koran.
