Mr. Roosevelt recognized this very important aspect of leadership. He employed all means to achieve it effectively. Even his book, "On Our Way," was written with that in mind.

I won't press it any further. However, I think we should call "first recession" "the depression."

Three consecutive annual declines in GDP amounting to -8.6 percent (1930), -6.4 percent (1931), and finally -13 percent (1932)! Imagine what it must have been like. I am pleased that Mr. Roosevelt was there in 1933.
