Duesberg's theories were interesting when they came out, but I think the history of AIDS in Africa and China have undercut them drastically. In China, for example, people with AIDS don't receive any treatment at all, but still die.

The epidemiology of Chinese AIDS is pretty clear, too. People sold blood plasma which was pooled before it was reinjected into their bodies. These are the people who got AIDS. People who did not receive pooled plasma did not get AIDS, for the most part.

In Africa, more women have AIDS than men, which undercuts his theory that gay men get AIDS because they abuse drugs like amyl nitrate (poppers). I doubt very much that people in Africa can afford poppers.

I had to laugh when I read what Duesberg has to say about AIDS in Africa.

>>AFRICAN AIDS IS TOO SMALL TO BE DETECTED STATISTICALLY AGAINST THE BACKGROUND OF NORMAL AFRICAN MORBIDITY, MORTALITY AND GROWTH RATES<<

That's if you look at "Africa" but if you look at individual countries, e.g., Botswana, the rate is 36%.

Bottom line: practice safe sex. Not as much fun as unsafe sex but that's the breaks.
