1) Exceptional performers deserve exceptional pay. However, you can not claim that 12,000 pilots in UAL are all exceptional and deserve average pay 20 to 40 percent greater than industry norm.

Look at HP/Compaq.

Carly Fiorina gets tens of millions for a merger that doesn't really enrich the shareholders, then she cuts 8000 jobs. Of course she accepted the money(who wouldn't), but in the final analysis weren't the job cuts and the merger designed to enrich one single person?
