Has it ever occurred to Canadians in throes of moral superiority that it's really rather easy to feel morally superior to a world power?

All you really would have had to do is ask your mother country, Great Britain, about it a century ago. They knew it then.

It's easy to sit back and carp and criticize. When you're the guy on the spot who has to make the difficult decisions, it ain't so easy. Consider yourselves lucky not to be in that position. It is in many ways a curse. And you know at some point you will lose whatever advantages may come with it. Just a few good screw-ups are enough to do it. We already had one in Vietnam.

So who would you have preferred to win the Cold War? The Soviets? Would that have been a better outcome?
