I can tolerate that. They have a bunch of idiot fans who have nothing to do with the school who buy tickets for bowl games. But in the end, the bowls are about money, nothing more, nothing less. What I was complaining about was that the stupid Big East commissioner is trying to "place" certain teams within the Big East based on "pecking order." The Insight Bowl wanted us. An Insight Bowl rep came to the locker room after the UVA game and all but assured the players that's where we're going. We wanted Insight. Mike Tranghese steps in and says, "No, Pitt finished ahead of you. Pitt deserves to go." Now he may have a point if bowls were about who deserves to go where. But that's not the case. Tranghese essentially sent Pitt to the Insight even though the Insight preferred us. In the end, the Big East will lose affiliation with the Insight as a result. Tranghese doesn't understand that his job is to keep the bowls happy. Keep them happy and they'll return like a satisfied customer. The worst part though was the rumor (and I believe it was more than just rumor) that Tranghese was going to send VT (instead of BC) to the Motor City Bowl on Dec 26 in Detroit, even though the San Fran Bowl wanted us. He had all the AD's of the Big East schools (with the exception of VT and BC) vote to see where the two teams should go. He knew that VT fans would travel well even if we were "assigned" to the MCB. In essence, we were being screwed over for being good fans. Luckily, though, the AD's voted for us to go to San Fran. But it should never have been an issue. What other conference has the AD's vote about where teams go bowling? This is bush league. The moral of the story is clear. Even though the Big East has only 3 teams that bowls like to have (Miami, VT, WVU - Miami because they're a national draw; VT and WVU because we travel well), and even though the best traveling team in the Big East is VT, when it comes down to where the loyalties lie in the Big East, VT is at the bottom. We're just above the detritus on the ocean floor. What team kept the Big East from becoming the CUSA in the 90's when Miami was on probation? What school's fans travel the best? What school other than Miami has been in the MNC game? To Mike Tranghese and the private basketball schools, it doesn't matter.
