I thought he made a decent first attempt at an explanation on Hannity's show (I heard a clip on Fox) but he was his usual ineffectual self.

Democrats will circle the wagons around their people, while in some cases the Republicans throw theirs overboard.

I consider this a strength for Republicans rather than a weakness. Part of Democrats current difficulty is their obsession in protecting untenable positions.

Also, Thomas Sowell's article on the Lott matter is quite good.
