Yes, Lott does manage to get things done, but the specter of being a racists still hangs over him. Being led by a racists is a highly distasteful thought to millions of Americans who only wish for the high ideal of equality.

Even the slightest appearance of being a racist on the part of American leaders invites doubt of our constitutional sincerity.......and THAT is not acceptable.

If the US wishes to be that shining beacon reaching out to those less free, we cannot allow even a hint of racism to infect the halls of democracy.

Even this northerner recognizes subtle racism when she sees it.
