oh interesting, never thought of that

actually once in a blue moon you will see a posting on monster or hotjobs for cisco, ciena or one of those, usually for a very specific role... I remember someone who specialized in packaging at cisco once.

They probably get the general jobs through recruiters to avoid the flood, I can see that.

A small software company around here (epiphany) had a job posting on craigs list the other day, not in hotjobs- they are probably trying to narrow the prospective pool by using that site

I just remember in 99/2000 there were so many jobs on the cisco or netapp sites you had to do an "and" search with multiple keywords to get through the mess.

In CSCO's case, all jobs openings have to be filled internally. Only in the most extreme cases where a job cannot be filled by moving someone internally (they are still overstaffed) will they go outside of the company to fill a position. JNPR has another round of Juniper originals who will be leaving at the end of the year. (it may have the name Juniper, but it is Unisphere inside). In other words, they are still laying off folks.
