The kind of socks make a big difference for static. Very high when I wear synthetic fluffies, and very low when I wear cotton.

And I always, always, always ground myself on a metal file cabinet before touching my computer. Learned the hard way once when a spark jumped from my finger to the mouse and fried the parallel printer port.
