Your immunity to smallpox declines over time -- a better question to ask your parents is whether you were ever reimmunized -- if so, your survival rate is much better than if you only were immunized once.

On the other hand, if you were already vaccinated once with no serious side effects, you are not likely to get side effects when reimmunized. Not sure if that's simple statistics or based on your individual physiology but at any rate, that's what the experts say.
