The Luminists is a school of American landscape painters whose painterly interest is in, most notably, light itself, and its interaction with nature. They're 19th century Romantics, but there's a contemporary group of painters referred to as the "latter day Luminists."

For examples, here are some images of paintings by one of the latter day Luminists, and a member of the Hudson River School. There are six pages of his landscapes on Artnet.com if you keep clicking Next. Very romantic, very lyrical, very beautiful landscapes. The word "spiritual" is often applied. You can see, not well but a little, even from these small images, which are enlarged if you click on them, that the canvas seems... well, luminous.

If you put "the Luminists" into google you get lots of hits, but I imagine I've told you more than you care to know about the Luminists.
