Culturally, Israel is at least as European as Turkey. Still everyone knows that Europe would sooner admit present regime Pyongyang to the EU than Israel - where they've compounded the deadly sins of being Jewish and capitalist. But I think Valery Giscard d'Estaing's recent coup de gueule was useful in showing clearly that it's not eventual resolution of economic or human rights issues that really motivates Europe deep down, but an age old prejudice against what is "not European" tout court.
