I just renewed my license plate online -- needed the biennial emissions inspection but the way they have it set up the mechanic can upload the results to DMV -- I printed out a receipt to show in case I get pulled over before the renewal tags come in the mail.

Kewl.

Almost makes up for the fact that I spent about 4 hours renewing my driver's license, plus having to drive to DMV and home four times to get it all done (when I got married 20+ years ago I did not change my name on my social security card - IRS cracked down this year so I had to fix it all with IRS - but IRS and DMV computers don't talk to each other - first they said they needed my birth certificate so I went home and came back with that another day, then they said they needed my social security card so I went home and came back with that another day, then they said they wanted my original marriage certificate - I broke down and started crying - eventually a manager said he would take a photocopy of my marriage certificate and put me at the front of the line the next time I came in - I actually found my original marriage certificate in a box in the basement - this is why I like the idea of Total Information Awareness. What's so bad about computers knowing everything there is to know about you, compared with the way it is now where they know nothing?

Also completed 15 hours of continuing legal education online this weekend, barefoot and wearing sweats. At $60 an hour I am not all that happy about it but at least I was comfortable.

Still haven't figured out what bankruptcy software to buy but that will be cool, too. I remember back when we had to type the information on multipart forms and use whiteout on all the parts when a typo was made. Arggh.
