My fear is not unlike yours, though maybe we differ on some of the details of what is palpably irrelevant. For example, I don't know what you think about this, but I think our extremely open attitudes toward immigration from such countries as... Saudi Arabia, for example (!), must be tightened. I think paying no attention to who was taking flying lessons was dumb. And I'm to the right of the Bush administration on profiling in airports, believing as I do that attention should be paid to travelers in proportion to how closely they fit the description of those who have declared and also demonstrated a desire to destroy our civilization. When we have reason to fear Swedish flyers, scrutinize them disproportionately, would be my recommendation. Be fair to those Swedes, be courteous to them, and be thorough.
