I really don't know who suggested Kissinger. It's a very stupid decision. I'd have though Rumsfeld or Cheney had better antennae; Ashcroft is secretive and malign enough, but it doesn't seem his style. Surely a Nixon-era retread, or maybe Wolfowitz, perhaps?

I thought I had castigated the choice of Kissinger, but I couldn't be bothered to post much recently so it may have been a rant I scrapped. It wasn't before his appointment, though - if I was that prescient I wouldn't be wasting time here when there are markets open...
