the big cap market has gone flat line since mid october, so is this 6 month sideways picture a base or a consolidation in a downtrend?

P.S:
Nature & History have provided a clue. The life span of a human, 200 years ago was on average near 35-40 years. It has now increased to an average of 60+.

That war was won not by killing each bug with a sledge hammer but by investing in Sanitary drains and Running water. Once the conditions for breeding the bug changed, the bug died out by itself.

Its an alternative view.
