How about his leadership position in the appropriations committee, or any of the several other committee seats he holds?

Do you really think any committee position compares to the Majority Leader of the Senate,

The leader of the appropriations committee is very powerful. Sometimes even more powerful then the Majority Leader.

The only two people more powerful than the Majority Leader is the President and the VP. The Majority Leader is second in succession to the presidency. While the Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee definitely has power, it is much less than that of the Majority Leader of the Senate.

This is a major loss for Lott.....probably something he's worked for most of his life. Currently, he is suggesting that he will resign his Senate seat if he loses on the majority leadership position.
