Mish:

Excellent commentary.

I dumbfounds me that he does not choke over some of his own comments,.... especially when you have read what he has written in the past.

I also believe that he knows the productivity numbers are a hoax created by hedonic pricing. But when the ship is sinking, hang on to anything that looks like it might float.

Best, Earlie

Mish, excellent remarks.

The key that he either doesn't see or won't acknowledge publicly is that present conditions are not sustainable. Whether or not the housing market is in a "bubble", the financial stimulus coming from that sector can't be repeated year after year. It is definitely unsustainable. As Bill Gross has said, there is a lower limit to which mortgage rates will go, and we are nearly there. Also, there's that dirty little issue of principal repayment that limits how small house payments can ultimately become.

Unless this unsustainable stimulus finds a replacement, the economy will suffer serious withdrawls when it is taken away.

Not to worry, though, it's only a couple % of GDP...<s>

mishedlo,

Great job.

I think you could have saved a little time if you simply said that Greenspan again verified that he's either a moron or a dangerous man that continues to duck responsibility for the damage he has and continues to do. :-)

The meaning of deflation and the characteristics that differentiate it from the more usual experience of inflation are subjects being actively studied inside and outside of central banks. As I testified before the Congress last month, the United States is nowhere close to sliding into a pernicious deflation.

we don't really know what deflation IS (we are studying it) but we are nowhere close to experiencing this thing that we don't know what it is.

farking moron.
