Good Morning Neocon:

If I may jump in here......(I'm probably going to wish I hadn't)

You said it yourself, "apparent endorsement of segregation."

What we have here, of course, is the old double standard. Something a Republican says is blown out of proportion and run with by the Democrats and media until the Republicans cave and get rid of the "offending" party. Something a Democrat says is ignored. Bill said it well yesterday that the Republicans remove theirs and move on, and the Democrats just spray more perfume on their putrid smell.

I don't wish to get into which was worse, it's all already been beaten to death.

I have NEVER been a fan of Lott's, I think he has given in way too many times to the Democrats, specifically Daschle and the whole thing regarding Senate committee leadership posts.

Good riddance to him, let's move on, and let's get some leadership that will lead again, like '94.

Regards,

BobP

Good morning, Neo.
Did you have a problem with Howard Cossell when he said about the fast black running back, "Look at that monkey go!"? What about the Dodgers general manager who claimed that blacks don't swim too well because their muscles are denser?

There are plenty of jokes and comedy routines by guys like Chris Rock and Eddie Murphy which joke about these kinds of topics, in addition to water mellon and chicken jokes. Yet because the above slurs were made in a professional and non-joking environment, both offenders got fired.

Clinton's remarks were seen by the Irish as offensive. Proof of that has been posted here. He too should have been fired over them.

Well, first of all aI think both sets of remarks are blown way out of proportion.

But, each remark is stupid and insensitive, Clinton's WRT a stereotype the Irish find offensive and Lott's because it can be seen as a tacit endorsement of segregation. I don't think either speaker meant the remarks in that way BUT those words in each instance can be seen as offensive. There is no denying that.
